Betty has been teaching and working in the fitness industry since the early 1980’s. She received her Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois in 1992. She holds several professional certifications through The National Strength & Conditioning Association, ACE (American Council on Exercise), IDEA Health and Fitness Association, and The Cooper Institute of Dallas, Texas. Betty has spent several years working with special populations that include children, sports teams, public safety professions, cardiac rehabilitation, and the aging population. For several years she taught faculty/staff and student fitness classes at the University of Illinois' Department of Campus Recreation and served as the Physical Fitness Coordinator for the University of Illinois' Police Training Institute. Betty has also worked in the private fitness industry as a physical fitness consultant, personal trainer, and Director of Personal Training. She became a faculty member at ISU beginning in 2004 and serves as an Instructional Assistant Professor and the Exercise Science Internship Coordinator. Additionally, Betty is President of Universal Fitness Network, Inc. which specializes in public safety physical fitness assessments and program development.
