Amy R. Hurd, CPRE is currently the Director of Graduate Studies and Professor in Recreation and Park Administration within the School of Kinesiology and Recreation at Illinois State University. While at Illinois State Dr. Hurd has taught classes at the undergraduate and graduate level in management with an emphasis in marketing, human resources, and finance. Her research focuses on competency development and succession planning. Prior to coming to Illinois State University Amy was a Visiting Lecturer in Management at Indiana University. As a practitioner Amy worked for the Champaign Park District as a special events coordinator and as the Marketing Director. Dr. Hurd taught at Srinakharinwirot University (Bangkok Thailand) in Sustainable Tourism as a visiting scholar, traveled to Opole University of Technology in Poland and Mendoza, Argentina with students. Amy has co-authored the Official Study Guide for the Certified Park and Recreation Professional Exam (2 editions), Kraus’ Recreation and Leisure in Modern Society (3 editions), Parks and Recreation Professionals Handbook, and Leisure Services Management. She has also been an invited presenter at the National Executive Development School, the Indiana University Executive Development Program, and many National Recreation and Park Association Annual Congress educational sessions. In 2009 Amy was elected to the American Leisure Academy and appointed to the CPRP and CPRE Exam Item Writing Committees for NRPA. She has served NRPA as a member of the American Park and Recreation Society Board of Directors and chaired numerous board committees including publications and awards.
