Academic Advising

Advising helps you succeed. Our professional advisors provide resources, guidance and support.
During the advising experience, you'll explore, define, and develop an educational plan to help achieve your goals.

Meet Your Advisor

Appointments

KNR advisors work with students who have a declared KNR major/minor and 25 or more hours. University College advisors assist undeclared students and those with 24 or fewer hours.

Appointment Info

Plan to meet with your advisor at least once per semester. Appointments are about 15 minutes long during registration periods and 30 minutes all other times.
Long-term planning typically takes 30 minutes. This includes creating a plan of study or planning out several semesters. Make this kind of appointment early so you're guaranteed enough time with your advisor.

During advanced registration, advisors will only discuss the upcoming semester.

Be prepared for your appointment. Arrive on time and bring a list of questions to go over with your advisor.

You can prepare for your appointment using the "progress toward degree" link in My.IllinoisState, the undergraduate catalog, Course Finder, and the Plan of Study for your major.

Call to Make an Appointment

To make an appointment, call (309) 438-5782 or stop by the main office in McCormick 250. Advisors do not schedule appointments via email.

Apply for/Declare a Major

You can apply for all majors in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation each year in September and February. The application is located on My.IllinoisState.

Pre-Professional

If you are interested in pursuing graduate programs in allied health professions (Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, etc.) you should meet with a pre-professional advisor in addition to your major advisor.
