Welcome to the School of Kinesiology and Recreation (KNR). Our school was founded in 1863 and we have been successfully educating students on the importance of health, physical activity, and leisure for 150 years and counting. This success and longevity are largely due to our facultyís continued focus on exemplary teaching, scholarship, and professional service.
KNR offers bachelorís degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Physical Education Teacher Education, and Recreation and Park Administration, as well as a Masterís of Science degree in various sequences. Our degrees are in high demand and offer a rewarding career in various fields. Because of the popularity of our programs and these professions, KNR has a large student enrollment. However, we also employ a large staff of nationally and internationally known scholars, which allows our class sizes to remain small, thereby providing our students with more individualized interactions with professors.
All of our undergraduate students are provided with internship opportunities and numerous paid assistantships for graduate students. These opportunities allow students to gain hands-on practical experience within their chosen field. We also have several opportunities to study abroad providing international exposure and a unique professional perspective that gives our students a distinct advantage upon entering the job market.
The School of KNR is housed within the recently renovated McCormick Hall, which is a 170,000 square foot complex connected to the Student Fitness Center and contains an Athletic Training Lab/Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Therapy Clinic, Biomechanics Lab, Exercise Physiology Lab, Psychology of Sport Lab, two computer labs, an instructional gym, and numerous classrooms. All of our labs and classrooms are equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology providing our students unique experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.
I encourage you to browse our web pages and videos that detail our different majors and all that our School has to offer. If you are interested in an exciting career in the health, physical activity, and recreation fields then ISU and the School of Kinesiology and Recreation are an ideal place to begin your career!
